Guntur Sannam S4 Chilli Powder
Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh, India · GI Registered
Guntur Sannam — traded as S4 or 334 — is India's most widely exported chilli variety and holds a Geographical Indication (GI) registration. Grown in Guntur district and the adjoining districts of Prakasam, Warangal, and Khammam, it is characterised by long pods (5–15 cm), thick red skin, and consistent pungency.
At 35,000–40,000 SHU, Sannam sits in the moderate-to-high heat range — hot enough for robust flavour delivery but sufficiently controlled for standardised food manufacturing. Its balanced profile of heat and colour makes it the most versatile variety for curry powders, sauces, pickles, and spice blends where predictable pungency is essential.
Applications
- Curry powders and traditional South Indian masala blends
- Pickle manufacturing — balanced heat with deep flavour
- Sauce and condiment production requiring moderate pungency
- Standard export-grade blending with colour varieties
- Capsaicin extraction for industrial and pharmaceutical use
